• உடையான்கண்ணே (udaiyaankanae) - in the eyes of the possessor

Activity 1: Family Tree Creation

1. Introduce a template family tree with Tamil labels
2. Students create their own family trees using Tamil words
3. Present family trees to the class, practicing pronunciation

Instructor: Prepare a template family tree beforehand. Encourage students to add additional relationships they know in Tamil. Help with pronunciation and usage of case markers like -க்கு (ku) in மகற்கு.

Activity 2: Relationship Dialogue Practice

Create and practice dialogues using the new vocabulary:

1. Introducing family members
2. Describing relationships
3. Practicing hospitality scenarios

Example: A: உங்கள் தந்தை எங்கே? (Where is your father?) B: என் தந்தை வீட்டில் இருக்கிறார். அவர் விருந்தோம்பல் செய்கிறார். (My father is at home. He is practicing hospitality.)

Instructor: Prepare dialogue templates. Encourage students to modify and expand on them. Focus on proper use of pronouns and relationship terms.

Activity 3: Cultural Context Discussion

Discuss the cultural significance of:

1. விருந்தோம்பல் (hospitality) in Tamil culture
2. குலன் (family/lineage) and its importance
3. The role of பார்ப்பான் (Brahmin/priest) in society
4. The concept of கண்ணோடு (with the eye) in Tamil literature

Instructor: Prepare brief cultural notes on each topic. Encourage students to share their own cultural perspectives and compare with Tamil culture.

Practice Time!

In pairs, create a short story or dialogue incorporating at least 8 words from today’s lesson, focusing on family relationships and cultural aspects.

Example: தந்தை மகற்கு கூறினார், “நம் குலன் விருந்தோம்பல் செய்வது முக்கியம். பிறர் உதவி செய்.” (The father said to the son, “It’s important for our family to practice hospitality. Help others.”)
